Can I ask a weird question?

Better than anyone I know! Ba-dum-bum.

OK, I’ll put on my serious face now because I do have a serious (if slightly odd) request: Readers, can you suggest some films that start with the … less utilized letters of the alphabet? You know, the ones that consistently get picked last for kickball? The letters Q, V, Y and Z are looking a little lonesome in my A-Z reviews collection, while X got so bored and hungry he wandered away one day when I was busy overfeeding “S” and “B.”

So let’s hear your suggestions — any movies (good, bad, terrifically terrible) that start with those letters.

  1. Xanadu
Vision Quest (that could be a twofer)
    (the) Year of living dangerously
    Yellow Submarine
These are just a few suggestions that I could think of at the moment.

  2. oh, and Zulu.

  3. Q the Winged Serpent
    Vanishing Point
    (A) Very Brady Sequel
    You, The Living
    Young Einstein (starring Yahoo Serious)
    Young Sherlock Holmes
    Young Winston
    Zero Effect

    …all killer no filler

  4. How about X, I’m sure if Roger Corman had something to do with it then it will fit on a Terrible Tuesday!
    Quantum of Solace
    Queen of the Damned

    V for Vendetta
    Vanilla Sky
    Vantage Point
    Vicky Cristina Barcelona
Visitor Q – Extremely wacked out film there
Voices of a Distant Star – Amazing anime, very beautiful

    Year One
    Yes Man
You Don’t Mess With the Zohan
    You, Me and Dupree

and for Z I could probably name a billion that start with zombie so you could randomly pick one of those.

All those are just the ones I happen to have in my collection which is neatly organized in the Collectorz program!

  5. The Queen
    Quest for Fire
    The Quick & the Dead
    Quiz Show

    The Virgin Suicides
The Vanishing (foreign & domestic versions)
    Valentine’s Day
    Van Helsing

    X-Files (x2)

    Young Guns (x2)
    Y Tu Mama Tambien
    Eulogy (has a Y sound) 🙂

  6. One answer:

    Here are some others:

Zack and Miri Make A Porno
    Queen Of The Damned
    The Quest

    and Young Guns 🙂

  7. You Can’t Take it With You is pretty great.

I haven’t seen Quadrophenia so I don’t know if it sucks but it does begin with Q!

    Quantum of Solace
Vals Im Bashir (Waltz with Bashir)
    X2: X-Men United

And others that have already been mentioned…
    Zombie Strippers

  8. Here’s a twofer: Visitor Q. I win!

  9. “Z Channel: A Magnificent Obsession”

It’s a doc. Some movies featured might interest you. 🙂

    “Valentino: The Last Emperor”

    If you like fashion.

Just ’cause it’s really good. Hahah.

  10. Reaching into the past for this list. Do you have them already?
    Quigley down under
    Quest for fire
    The Yards

    • Wow — thanks, everyone, for loads of great suggestions! Those lonely categories won’t be feeling so lonely soon.

@ Kai — Somehow I knew “Road House” would show up in your suggestions! 🙂 And WOW aren’t you quite the overachiever?

@ Alex — “Zombie Strippers” is one I’ve always been curious about .. you’re talking about the Pam Anderson one, right? Last Halloween I saw one on the Sci-Fi Channel that had the same title but a bunch of no-name actors.

@ Stu — I’ve seen “Zodiac” and loved it, but this reminds me to review it!

@ Film Reel — I didn’t even think of movies that started with the word “zombie,” but it sounds promising.

@ Unruly + Heather — Both of you suggested “Xanadu,” so I think we have a winner!

      • Zombie Strippers is with Jenna Jameson actually but yeah I think we’re thinking of the same one! It’s weird and funny and I found it pretty entertaining. I think I’m one of the few though, so tread carefully.

  11. Quadrophenia is definitely worth watching Alex…and M. Carter! Would recommend Zulu for the ‘Z’s.

  12. Okay, I was going to suggest a couple, but would be too embarrassed to now, with the lengthy lists compiled by some other members of the film mafia!

  13. I can’t believe no one mentioned “The Quiet American” with Michael Caine. Now that – that is a goodie.

  14. Quarantine! Did someone already say that?

  15. I wanted to mention The Quiet American and The Virgin Suicides…but looks like I’m a month late. But here’s two that have not been mentioned.

    The Quiet
